Health and Safety Plan for Reopening School Buildings
**The Health and Safety Plan is currently being developed and will be posted here after school board approval on August 3rd, 2020**
We appreciate the patience of the entire Wyalusing Community as we navigate the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic and ensure a safe path forward for returning to normal operating conditions. As you most certainly understand, our first priority is the health and safety of our students and community while also serving in our primary role of K-12 education.
All educational facilities which include WVHS, WVES, Fitness Center, and all school property athletic and community facilities require adherence to new mandates dictated by the PA Department of Education (PDE) and the Governor. Recently, those entities issued mandates associated with the re-opening of school buildings. The PDE has mandated that the district develop a comprehensive Health and Safety Plan which must be approved by the board of directors before the re-opening of any school facility. The plan requires many different topics that must be addressed, so this is not a Plan that can realistically be completed without considerable work.
We recognize how frustrating this is, for students, staff, and community members, but the requirements associated with the mandated Health and Safety Plan will require time to develop. On June 8th, the board of school directors voted to move the August board meeting to occur one week earlier in anticipation of being able to approve the Health and Safety Plan as soon as possible. All school district facility usage will reopen as soon as the plan is approved which is anticipated to occur on August 3rd, 2020, but will remain closed until that time.
WVHS Fitness Center
The Fitness Center remains closed until the Health and Safety Plan is approved as indicated above. The school board is slated to approve the plan on August 3rd, 2020.
In the meantime, membership billing for the fitness center was paused in March and will remain on hold until the facility re-opens.
** The Athletics Health and Safety Plan is currently being developed and will be posted here after school board approval on August 3rd, 2020**
The Governor has issued a mandate for the return of sports activities that require the district to develop and obtain school board approval for an Athletics Health and Safety Plan. The plan requires many different topics that must be addressed, so this is not a Plan that can realistically be completed without considerable work.
The Governor has also provided the following information related to spectators. "Any sports-related activities in Yellow or Green phased counties must adhere to the gathering limitations set forth by the Governor’s Plan for Phased Reopening (25 in yellow, 250 in green) and the facility as a whole may not exceed 50% of total occupancy otherwise permitted by law. During the Yellow and Green phases of reopening, sports-related activities at the PK-12 level are limited to student-athletes, coaches, officials, and staff only. The addition of visitors and spectators will be contingent upon future health conditions within the state and local communities."
